Wind-Up Knight Android Review

Wind-Up Knight is a 3D side-scrolling platforming adventure game that was developed by Robot Invader that follows the typical tried-and-true formula of a knight going off to rescue a princess from evil. You are first introduced to the story through email messages. The Black Knight emails the king to inform him that he has stolen the princess in really bad grammar and spelling while the king then forwards the email to our knight hero, ordering him to save the princess and defeat the Black Knight. History anachronism much? Of course we all had emails back in medieval times.

And what's more, the app itself is FREE!!

There are a total of 52 levels and four Books. The first Book is free but future Books will either require in-game money (1,200 notes) or real cash ($1.99) in order to unlock. You can essentially get the entire game for free but you will need a lot of in-game money. Each book completion gives you about 1000+ notes so in order to unlock all the books you basically have no money to upgrade your equipment.


Controls: The knight himself moves on his own so you have no control over that. What you do have control over is jumping, attacking, rolling, and shielding yourself from falling objects. You jump from one platform to the next while avoiding gaps and spikes. You swing your sword to attack monsters. The monsters consists of chicken-dragon-snake-I-don't-know-what-else hybrids in the first set of levels, black wolves in the second set, and green ogres in the third set.

MAGIC CARDS: Each level has a Magic Card hidden somewhere. They are usually very hard to find and require some skill in order to reach the actual card once spotted. The entire set of cards is basically your regular deck of cards (hence why there are 52 levels). Collect all the clubs, diamonds, spades, or hearts to unlock new items. 

RANKING: You will receive a grade after you complete a level. The highest rank is S, which is received by collecting ALL of the coins AND the Magic Card. The next highest is the A rank, which can be gotten by simply getting 90%+ of all the coins on the level. You must get a rank of A or above in order to unlock the Knightmare level of each book.

CHALLENGE: This game can be quite challenging. It took me several runs of each level just to complete it and even more to achieve the S rank. Timing is everything in this game. However, the game can lag at times. It's not very noticeable but still enough to cause you to jump or attack too late and die. 

SHOP: You can upgrade your equipment in the shop. Helmets, swords, armor, and shields. Some items will be unlocked for you when you complete certain objectives, such as completing Book One or Two. Others will require money. Of course, just like most other games, the good stuff is always super expensive. Having upgrades is not necessary in order to win the game. They will make your game easier but it's not required in order to win.

CONCLUSION: Wind-Up Knight is a game that every one should have on their Android device. You don't even have to pay for the first book so why not try it out? Get yours today and you will never regret it. This game will keep you entertained for hours. It's very addicting. So much to the point that you might end up missing a few homework assignments.....
