Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (美食从天而降) is a 2009 computer-animated family comedy film. It is based on the book of the same name by Judi and Ron Barrett, but it's a loose interpretation. It was directed by Phil Lord and produced by Pam Marsden. It has a running time of 90 minutes. The film follows the crazy inventions of inventor-wannabe Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader). Flint has always been known as the failed inventor in the make-believe town of Swallow Falls. After an economy downfall, the town found itself eating nothing but sardines and getting tired of it. As a result, Flint decides to create a machine that will convert water into any food he wants. After a malfunction, the machine ends up stuck in the sky. However, Flint can still control the machine and makes cheeseburgers rain on the town. Swallow Falls and Flint become an instant hit and every one is flooding Flint with food requests. But when the machine overloads and increases the size of the food, Flint realizes that everything has gone totally wrong. He must now fly into the sky with weather reporter Sam Sparks (Anna Faris) in order to input the kill code and destroy the machine before the food destroys the entire world.

The movie is absolutely hilarious. I love Flint's crazy and exaggerated expressions and his random failures. His monkey sidekick Steve only adds more to the humor as he most often fails to understand what Flint wants him to do. He also has an obsession with gummi bears and is constantly begging Flint to make it rain the sweet candy. Flint's father Tim's misinterpretations of computer terminology also lessens the suspense with humorous results. The graphics are beautiful and very clear. This is an excellent movie for young kids and the family. Just make sure that you don't watch this with an empty stomach. Otherwise, you'll most likely find yourself hugging the television screen in a desperate attempt to eat the food shown, even if its animated. And I also don't think Flint's spray-on shoes are coming off anytime soon.
